SDSC Education Data Portal
Timeline of Milestones
Description of the SDSC Education Data Portal (from EPIC SoW)
Project Updates Page
15 months - 5 quarters.
(Note: along with this timeline I will be enrolled in one or more java programming courses. )
Quarter 1:
Front-end Analysis
Identify participants:
Identify SDSC portal developers
-
Identify key contacts within NCSA, NSDL, DLESE, etc.
-
Identify high school teachers and undergrad professors to help with content, usability
-
Provide incentives for participating educators (get sponsors to donate cool tech?)
Evaluate Data Resources
Evaluate Portal Development Tools
Establish metrics of evaluation for success for alpha and beta prototypes and final portal (i.e., number of users, surveys, pre-/post-lesson quizzes)
Conduct at least 2 AG conferences on the Ed Portal to:
- help identify how this portal is to be positioned within the broader EOT community of resources and marketed to the education community.
- help i dentify to what extent we need to incorporate or adhere to the ontological framework of the NSDL being developed at SDSC.
Quarter 2:
Identify one data resource to base alpha prototype on.
Identify graphic design and web development support.
Begin working with educators on content.
Begin graphic design and web prototyping.
Design and develop the 'general web-based interface' in Task 3a above as a prelude to the actual portal. This can be a 'rigged mockup' with simple tools (Flash, PHP, MySQL) to allow for rapid prototyping and iterative design to refine the interface and content delivery.
Identify alpha prototype 'testers'. Create rubric for gui evaluation.
Continue to evaluate portal development tools for beta prototype.
Conduct 3 Ed Portal AG conferences.
Quarter 3:
Implement initial prototype with select group of alpha prototype testers (SDCOE, SDUSD, CC, SDSU, UCSD)
Plan workshop(s) to help train testers.
Formative evaluation of alpha prototype.
Begin design of beta prototype using more advanced portal tools.
Conduct 3 Ed Portal AG conferences.
Quarter 4:
Implement beta prototype.
Offer workshops to help train testers.
Formative evaluation of beta prototype.
Summative evaluation of alpha prototype.
Iterate on design if found to be a useful site worth maintaining.
Conduct 3 Ed Portal AG conferences to, in part, help identify promotional strategies.
Quarter 5:
Summative evaluation of beta prototype. Iterate on design to prepare for release of version 1.0 of Ed Portal.
Offer additional workshops to a broader community as needed.
Conduct 3 Ed Portal AG conferences.
