World Interhash '96, Cyprus

Before we get to the official stuff here are a few messages from the hash-l mailing list about aire fares and other info.

Summer rolls round and the event is less than a year away (!! Help!!). Registrations topped 2000 some months ago and we expect another flood as the next price band is reached in September. This flier contains a recap of the vital information in our last two fliers plus the latest info. Moral if you want all the fliers, register early. But don't worry, everything (!!) you need to know is in here. A reminder for those who haven't registered yet - next price increase is September 30th.

If you are thinking that the flier only goes out to those who have registered - it also goes to the Hash Press and other people who need it, and gets handed around at major hash events.

** You'll find included with the summer flyer **

1) A Flight Quote/Booking Form - for those hashers requiring flights from any destination, world wide;

2) An Accomodation and Transfer Booking Form, for all hashers, also available with charter flights from the UK for hashers passing through the UK. Also on this form, accommodation and transfer details for hashers wanting to spend some days in London, either before or after Interhash;

3) Info on the Shakedown in Dubai

** REMINDERS **

Visas.
For all except Turks & Iraqis, you can GET ONE AT THE AIRPORT ON ARRIVAL, Basically, Commonwealth citizens, Americans, Gulf or European Council citizens don't need one and others - i.e. Indonesians, Thais and Filipinos in hash terms, can get a tourist visa on arrival. This is valid for a month. The minimum stay is a week, and you must have the usual onward or return ticket and funds for your stay. If in doubt, contact the nearest Cyprus Embassy/High Commission, or, where there is no Cyprus diplomatic representation, the British Embassy, who issue visas on Cyprus' behalflt's your responsibility; if you need a visa - DON'T LEAVE IT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.
Accommodation and Transport.
The collapse of Cypriana Holidays exercised our brains almost to the exclusion of everything else earlier this year. We have been able to arrange a substitute however Golden Sun Holidays. Flight and Accommodation booking forms should be completed as soon as possible. We have options on accommodation in Limassol, but unless these are taken up we will have to release them, and you risk not being able to get the accommodation of your choice. When you complete the forms you send them back to the Interhash UK Travel Office, (for accommodation and flights ex-UK, and for accommodation in London). For flights from RE, complete and send the Flights form back to the Interhash Desk at Cyprus Airways office in Limassol. Remember - BOOK EARLY.
Kids/Pups/Horrors.
6 - 16, $30; under 6, Free. Pups get transport to the runs, food, softies but no goody bag. Goody bags will be available for purchase if you want. While its nice to get registration for pups, you can register them on the day in the normal way.
Accomodation in London
For hashers travelling through the UK, either before or after Interhash, we have male arrangements for accommodation in London if required. This has been arranged with Anglo World Travel (through the Interhash UK Travel Office), and there is space for your requirements on the booking form. While hashers taking time in London BEFORE Interhash should be alright, the European Football Championships take place in the UK starting in the same week as Interhash, and accommodation on the way back from Interhash could be in short supply. Again, we have taken out options on a certain amount of accommodation, but this MUST BE BOOKED EARLY.
Bonding Arrangements
Both Golden Sun and Anglo are fully bonded and hold the appropriate Air Tour Operators Licence. This means that any money you pay to them is intrinsically safe - even though you pay it from overseas.
Insurance.
Don't forget to arrange holiday travel sickness insurance. Health care in Cyprus is pretty good, but it is on a "pay as you lie there" basis, and in the worst case, you may need medivacing out. The Interhash UK Travel Office will arrange this for you on request.
Supporting Runs.
Several hashes want to set a run of their own around Interhash. We are circulating all hashes who are sending more than ten hashers to the event, asking them if they want to set a run, and offering the choice of day, location, time, type, etc. We will allocate sites on a first-come-first-served basis, so if your hash wants to set a run, let us know. We will give you all the info you require for buses, beer, ice, etc.
Cockups and Typos.
A couple of changes and corrections from our earlier literature. SAA no longer fly direct from South Africa,(fly through Athens, or with Gulf & Cyprus Airways through Bahrain) and the fax number for the Mediterranean Beach Hotel has changed. It is 357 5 324754. The Mediterranean Beach will be the site of pre-event registration and check-in on Wednesday and Thursday before the event.

The Dubai Pre-ramble is now being coordinated by Wingnut (Simon Dove), and the London Pre-ramble by Periodical (Andrew Davenall), Addresses at the end of this flier. Jose Cuervo are, unfortunately, discontinuing their sponsorship of hash events. We probably all drank too much!

Apart from the hiccups above, so far things are going pretty well. We have identified the majority of the run sites and are busy putting the weekends entertainment together. More Hash acts please.
GMs
Don't forget to register your GM, and only I per hash please. we have had a few people who both claim to be GMs of the same hash - including one who claims to be a GM but hasn't given his home hash. They will be punished in the usual way! Let us know by the end of April '95. No GM nominations on the day, please.
Passport Numbers and Addresses.
Don't forget to tell us if your passport number changes, or your address. No passport means no entry, or at best, a substantially delayed entry. We have had one enquiry (which went into the Funny File) demanding why we wanted his passport number. Dead simple, really - for YOUR security. This is a cruel world and even though hashers are presurrmbly better then most, there will, statistically, be a few of slightly suspect morals who may try to get in with YOUR reg. card - if they can get hold of it. Remember, until you check in, its worth $250 to someone who hasn't paid.

Also on the subject of security, there was a slight but significant percentage of hashers who tried to get in ftee in Rotorua, by having a friend pass their wristband through the fence. Just so everyone knows, you MUST keep your wristband on - NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are seen without your wristband on inside the main site, you will be asked, politely but firmly, to leave. Interhashers should know that we have already learnt that some morally challenged hashers are going to try to get in free. Its a tough old world, but be warned. Also remember - you have paid lots of money to come to the event; why should someone else get in free. If you are caught trying to get someone in ftee, you will forfeit your registration.
Voting
We are still open to suggestions as to how voting for the next Interhash should be carried out. We will make a decision based on the feedback we get and will let you know in the next (and last) flier, due out at Christmas.
The Lions.
As many of you will know, the Lions are a service organisation who raise money for charity from the community. The Coeur de Leon Lions in Lirnassol are giving us valuable help in a number of areas, and in return we are including a number of fundraising events at Interhash. Amathus H3 have a record of successful charity fundraising on their own account. This will certainly help the hashes' image in Cyprus and Interhash's image both at home and abroad.

Should we be fortunate enough to run the event at a surplus, then we will pass that surplus (less the float, augmented) to the Lions for distribution. There will also be a raffle at the event, and we are trying to organise a small number of significantly good prizes Air tickets, etc. and on the Wednesday following IH the IH/Lions Sponsored Marathon/Half Marathon/Walk will take place. There will be a full flier & entry form on this with the next flier. The Marathon/Half Marathon and Walk will all start from Limassol and go out to the west of the town to Kolossi, the Marathon runners will go off on a loop while the half marathon runners will return to town. The walkers will do a seven mite loop basically inside the runners circuit. The runs will start in the morning before it gets too hot and there will be the usual water stops, first aid car, etc. AH3 has done this twice before in the last three years, so we know what has to be done.
The Charities
As promised, we have identified the two main charities who will received any money raised, These are:- a> The Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society, who are currently trying to build a Hospice for the terminally ill in the Limassol/Paphos area, and who also provide nurses for the terminally ill, and b> The Leukaemia Research Fund International, who are at the forefront of research in this area. Both these charities were chosen because of their low admin costs and high effectiveness.
