Bat Rays, Guitarfish, & Leopard Sharks

We have so much fun along the shores of San Diego. There's never a dull moment if you love the ocean. I spend my free time kayaking & snorkeling along La Jolla Shores where there is an abundance of sea life.

We recently had an encounter with an estimated 30 bat rays in one concentration at La Jolla Shores in San Diego. The largest rays had wing spans of about 3-4 feet with whip-like tails that were about three feet long. Other fellow snorkelers reported dozens of bat rays in the shallow water close to the beach.

Bat rays and leopard sharks often move into shallow coves during the early to mid-summer. They can make for an exciting snorkeling experience.
