In this photo, we are standing on the spur that was the original route when the railroad was first opened in 1919. The tunnel entrance in the side of the hill was abandoned after an earthquake collapsed the majority of its length. The trestle was built to provide a route across Goat Canyon. If you look closely, you can see that the tunnel entrance is somewhat askew. In fact, it is said that the entrance has moved about 15 feet down the hill from its original position. Thus forcing its abandonment. So, we can thank Mother Nature for providing the reason for the construction of this awesome looking railroad trestle.
