Work

Amit Chourasia works as a Visualization Scientist at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) in the Visualization Services group. SDSC is a national supercomputing facility funded by National Science Foundation(NSF) and is a Organised Research Unit at University of California San Diego. Amit's work is focused on research, development and application of software tools for scientific visualization; for data typically generated by massively large computer simulations in various fields of science and engineering. Key portion of his work is to find ways to represent data in a visual form that is clear, succint and accurate (a challenging yet very exciting endeavour). He has had oppurtunities to work with research groups doing path breaking research in areas of astrophysics, biological sciences, climate modeling, computational fluid dynamics, nano technology, psychology, structural engineering and seismology. He believes that with the help of well done visualization domain scientists can gain significant insights and ask more relevant questions in addition to visual validation of their data.

Amit's research interests are in area of visualization, visual perception and computer graphics. He received a Master's degree in Computers Graphics Technology from Purdue University, West Lafayette and a Baccalaureate degree in Architecture(Honors) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He is a member of Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee and Co-Chair for 2008 IEEE visualization contest.
